This seemingly conservative Web log posting on God and the European Union appears to undermine the whole purpose of the writer's vehement (and knowledgeable) objections to E.U. totalitarianism. Catholics, for example, do not opine that their religion is true: they believe it is true. Anyone who forces atheism on a people, whether at the supra-national or national level, is their oppressor. It seems that at the blog level this writer is attempting the same thing. If he truly means what he has written, then he is replacing intellectual confrontation with ideological dogmatism – and the scope of his oppressiveness is merely constrained by the limitations on his political influence. |
